Richard Nixon was born in southern California. He was the second of five boys. Nixon was a good student. He finished college in 1934. Nixon became a lawyer in 1937.

Nixon wed in 1940. Richard and Pat had two girls. During World War II, Nixon served in the navy. After World War II, Nixon was elected to the U.S. Congress.

In 1950, Nixon became a U.S. senator. Then he was elected vice-president in 1952. Nixon was elected president in 1968.

As president, Richard Nixon did many good things. He ended the Vietnam War. Nixon brought our troops home.

Nixon made friends with the leaders in China and Russia. He kept the United States safe from another war.

While Nixon was president, the first man landed on the moon. On that day, Nixon made the longest phone call ever! He called all the way to the moon! Richard Nixon also started the space shuttle program.

Nixon started the Environmental Protection Agency. This group helps to keep our air and water clean. He lowered the driving speed limit for cars to 55 miles per hour. This was to help save gasoline.

Richard Nixon was president for almost two terms. In his second term, Nixon resigned, or quit, as president. This was because of the Watergate scandal. Nixon did not tell the truth about some people stealing information. Richard Nixon is the only president to resign his office.

After leaving office, Nixon wrote several books about his life and about the government.
