Chameleon means earth lion. A chameleon is a type of lizard. It is an interesting pet to own. A chameleon may live from three to ten years. It is usually kept in a wire cage. The wire cage should have lots of leaves and branches for the chameleon to climb.
A chameleon does not have ears. Instead, a chameleon uses its eyes. It can see all the way around its head. This lizard can also see different kinds of light.
A chameleon can change its color. The colors of a chameleon include yellow, black, and blue. A chameleon can be green, brown, and even pink. This lizard will change its color to help hide from danger. A chameleon may change its color when other chameleons are around. It will change colors to show how it feels. A chameleon will turn dark when it is upset. It may turn yellow when it is too hot.
A chameleon has a very long tongue. This lizard pushes out its tongue to catch food. The tip of its tongue is thick. It forms a suction cup that sticks to the food. You should feed the chameleon live insects and worms. A chameleon does not like to drink water from a bowl. It will drink water through a drip bottle.
