Dwight Eisenhower was one of seven sons. His family was poor. Dwight grew up in Kansas. He went through high school there. After high school, he went to the U.S. army academy at West Point. He graduated as an army officer in 1915.
The next year, Dwight married Mamie Eisenhower. They had two sons. Sadly, one son died at an early age from scarlet fever.
After the start of World War II, General Eisenhower became commander of all American troops fighting in Europe. He planned the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944. The invasion brought the end to the war in Europe. He was an American hero!
In 1952, Dwight Eisenhower ran for president and won the election. The American people liked President Eisenhower. His nickname was Ike. I like Ike

After Eisenhower was elected President, he ended the Korean War. The world was at peace. Eisenhower also started a huge highway project. The new roads would make travel around the U.S. much easier. Thousands of people worked on the new roads.
Eisenhower was the first president of all 50 states. He was the only president to have an airplane pilot’s license. Eisenhower was the first president to appear on a color TV. He loved to cook, especially steaks.
Golf was Eisenhower’s favorite game. He had a putting green and a driving range built on the White House grounds. He was often seen practicing his golf swing.
