The bullfrog is a very large frog. It can be as big as six to eight inches long. It can weigh one pound (half a kilogram) or more. It is green and has smooth skin. The bullfrog has a big, deep call. It can be heard up to a quarter mile away.

The bullfrog spends most of the day at the edge of water. It likes to live near water that has plants in it. The plants help it hide from its prey. It will eat almost any animal that is smaller than itself. It hunts at night. The bullfrog helps humans by eating pests.

In the fall, the bullfrog buries itself in the mud. It hibernates during the winter. In the spring, it mates. The female lays thousands of eggs in a pond. They hatch into tadpoles. The bullfrog tadpole can get up to six inches long! It looks like a fish. It might stay a tadpole for up to three years. Finally, it loses its tail. It grows legs and lungs. Then it is a frog!

Some people like to eat frog legs. People like to eat bullfrog legs because they are big. Some people say they taste like chicken.

The bullfrog is widespread. It can be found from Canada to Mexico. It can live up to ten years, but does not usually live that long.
