Aquatics are four sports: Swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming.
Swimming has many events. Some are done by one person. Some are done by teams. The events with teams are called relays.
In swimming there are different types of strokes. Strokes are different ways to move in the water. Some of the strokes are backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle. The events also vary in distance.
Diving events are for men and women. Most diving is done by one person. There are two types of diving events. There are platform diving and springboard diving events. There is also an event called synchronized diving. This is done by two divers. The team tries to do the same dive at the same time.
The next sport is water polo. Players can not touch the bottom of the pool at all during the game. Seven people play on a team. One person on the team is a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper has a job. The goalkeeper's job is to try to stop the other team from scoring a goal. A goal is scored when the ball is thrown past the goalkeeper into the net. The team that scores the most goals wins.
The last sport is synchronized swimming. It is like a dance in the water. Only girls do this sport. It is done by two or more girls. There are speakers in the water so they can hear the music.
Swimming was one of the first sports. The other sports were added later.
