There are over 20 different kinds of barracudas. A common kind of barracuda is the great barracuda. It lives in warm ocean water all around the world.

The great barracuda is a very big fish. It is long, skinny and silvery green in color. It is a very good hunter of fish. It is sometimes called the Tiger of the Sea.

The barracuda swims slowly looking for food. When it finds food, the barracuda swims very fast and surprises it. Within seconds, the barracuda has caught its dinner.

The barracuda has a pointed head and a large mouth. It has very sharp teeth. It cannot open its mouth very wide. It cannot chew its food. So, when it finds food, it bites the food into big chunks. Then it swallows a big chunk without chewing.

Barracuda will not hurt people unless it is being bothered. However, people are enemies of the barracuda. People like to catch barracuda for food. The barracuda tastes good and is easy to sell. People catching too many barracudas are causing problems. Barracudas need protecting.
